Riverside Walk
Stroll along Castle Green, bailey of the original Norman castle and early example of a city park, laid out in 1745 and tucked away next to the River Wye. Continue over Victoria Bridge with its pretty iron lacework, originally opened in 1898 to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria leading onto St George’s Playing Fields. All popular spots for community events, festivals and picnics.
Indie Food & Shopping
Hereford’s indie food scene has exploded in popularity, celebrating the very best of Herefordshire's own grown food and drink, its chefs, producers and makers, culminating in an annual summer food festival. The City’s thriving Independent Quarter located in and around Church Street with its quaint buildings and cobbles, connects the centre of Hereford with the Cathedral. In Saxon times known as Cabbage Lane it is now home to some lovely eateries, pubs and a selection of small retail shops. The newly developed Old Market and existing retail centre Maylords, house the usual High Street names, with the Victorian Buttermarket home to a bustling indoor market.
Magnificent Music
The Three Choirs Festival, the annual celebration of Europe’s oldest music festival and one of composer Elgar’s legacies, will take place in Hereford this summer. A world famous event, it has been jointly hosted by Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester cathedrals for 300 years. Look out for the iconic bronze statue of Elgar with his trusty bicycle, a much-loved feature located with the cathedral grounds.
