anything professional in his life. Jeans and tees were
his comfort zone. Now? He felt like an imposter before
he even started. The charcoal gray suit felt alien, stiff,
hanging in his closet like a constant reminder of the
new world he was about to enter. He just hoped he
wouldn't look like a complete rookie.
Then Sarah saw him. Down the hall. Her eyes
widened. "Peter! Wow," she said, the words hitting him
like a jolt. "That suit looks amazing on you." Suddenly,
the doubt vanished. He felt taller, more confident.
"Really?" he asked, a grin spreading across his face.
"Seriously," she replied, leaning against the doorframe.
"You look… like a million bucks."
Million bucks. That's exactly how he felt. Ready for
anything.
Most people feel good when they get a
compliment. Learning how to make a stranger feel
good when you compliment them is especially
important if you are looking to open new doors and
grow your network.
Look them in the eye for a second and mean it.
Don’t expect a compliment in return. This isn’t tennis.
