NICHOLAS BOOTHMAN
Anna, side-by-side. Ben and Lilly across from each
other. They agreed he could record their conversation.
A quiet click. Eric leaned in, a gentle interest in his
eyes. He had a feeling there was a small, interesting
story here, waiting to be heard.
“When was the last time you talked to a stranger?”
“Well right now I guess,” Lilly said. Big laugh. “Ok.
Yesterday at McDonalds.”
Anna thought for a while then said. “I don’t really
know.”
The other two said nothing.
“How do you feel about talking to strangers?” Eric
asked.
Lilly replied again. “Sometimes it’s weird because
you don’t really know who they are.”
Anna said, “I know. Me and my mom were looking
at stuff in a store and someone said ‘I’ve tried that one
before.’ But she spoke to us first. But then it turned into
a convo.”
“So,” Eric directed the question to Anna, “how do
you feel about talking to strangers?”
“It’s kind of like… I don’t know.”
