treating people with respect.” Selina sighed and rested
both elbows on the table, palms and fingers splayed
outwards. Then almost whispering, “why can’t we
accept somebody for who they are, even when they're
different from us and we don't agree with them? Why
can
’t we just treat people with respect? Why?”
“Hey,” Eric said, “I’m sorry if I’ve upset you. I guess
I’m doing exactly what you’re talking about but it’s not
my intention to scare you. This isn’t about you, or me.
It’s about 500 words to help people connect and make
their lives easier, friendlier, safer. And even make a few
magic moments.”
Selina made eye contact with Eric for the first time.
“Magic?”
“Magic moments. Sure.” Eric said. “That’s what
can happen. Not the rabbit-out-of-a-hat kind. The real
kind. The kind that leaves you feeling a little less alone
in the world. The kind that reminds you that everyone
has a story, a struggle, a moment of joy. Talking to
strangers isn't some grand gesture. It's a small act of
courage, a tiny leap of faith. But the rewards? They can
