I straightened out the sheets of paper absent-
mindedly and neatly lined up the thesaurus and the
pens. Then I took one of the sheets and folded it in half
vertically.
“So, I’m your hound-dog?" I said, "and you brought
me this far so I wouldn’t run away.”
“Hound dogs are independent creatures and they
don't stop until they find what they are looking for.”
“Good, then close your eyes and relax,” I said.
“Looks like we’ve got some mining to do.”
Casually Julia unwrapped her sweater from around
her waist, folded it over her knapsack and placed them
on the bench beside her. At the same time she made a
show of arranging herself comfortably. She drew an
inch or two nearer to me and rested her hands on the
table and closed her eyes. "Ok."
“Our quest revolves around the Parable of
Purpose. It begins like this:
“Imagine, in your mind's eye, that a few moments
before you are born, you find yourself in a line-up with
a slip of paper in your hand. On that paper, you have
to write, in one short phrase, the reason you deserve to
