closing early because of the weather."
As Jessie huddled in the warm restaurant,
desperation and loneliness washed over her. The
employees were turning off lights, eager to get home.
Just as she thought she'd be stranded, one of the
employees interrupted her fears.
"Hey, are you okay? I’m Sofia. I work here.”
Jessie poured out the story of her car.
"I...I don't know where to go," Jessie stammered,
her voice cracking. "I have nowhere to stay, and the
storm is getting worse. I was hoping to find a shelter or
something, but everything is closed."
“I’m sorry, you can't stay here, but we can't just turn
you out into the storm either,” Sofia replied, her
expression softening. "We're not supposed to let
anyone stay after hours, but… I don't know, there's just
something about you. You seem really lost."
"Lost is an understatement," Jessie said, a weak
laugh escaping her lips. "I just need a place to wait out
the storm, and then I'll figure something out."
“Why don't you come home with me?” Sofie said.
