1. What Stopped
It began with a word disappearing.
Not being forgotten. Just… not existing where it
should. A taxi driver reached for left and found
only turn. A child asked for water and heard herself
say the wet. A vendor held up a fruit and could not
name orange or orange.
At 04:17 UTC, every clock in a handful of cities
kept time but refused to tick. The tiny sound of
progress went missing. Street crossings showed
WALK while the little man wouldn’t walk. The
internet stayed online, but links clicked to blank.
No error. No page.
In Berlin, people lined up for bread and the line
forgot how to be a line. In Tokyo, a morning
newscaster smiled, then stared, then cried without
