Henry waited in a café near Rossio Station, the
same corner table where he and Carolina had
argued about Sofia’s ethics years earlier. Rain
blurred the windows; the whole world looked
smudged.
When Carolina walked in, soaked and fierce, he
stood but didn’t speak. They just looked at each
other—two survivors pretending they hadn’t been
broken in the same way.
Finally she said, “You got my message.”
“I always do,” he answered.
She sat, set her case on the table, and pulled out
a printed memo marked CHORUS INTERNAL –
EYES ONLY.
