Divine Spark Rising
He did. Three notes. A pause. The notes again.
She ran them through pitch detection. The interval
made a crooked triangle on-screen.
“Not random,” she said. “A beacon.”
Henry pinched the bridge of his nose. His hands
wouldn’t stop shaking. “From who?”
Carolina opened Jinji’s file, the one that had said
BELOW THE TEJO. She overlaid the beacon tones
on the static. The triangle fit exactly into the noise,
like a child’s hand into a mother’s.
“She’s alive,” Carolina whispered. “In the
archive.”
Henry felt the city lean in, like a listener. “How
do we reach her?”
Carolina wiped her face with both hands and
looked at him with the old fearless eyes. “We go
south until the silence stops chasing and starts
hiding,” she said. “We go to a place built for broken
radios and beautiful lies.”
He frowned. “Where?”
She smiled the kind of smile that means you’ve
already decided to jump. “Tangier.”
