remove contradiction, remove the chooser.
Silence will save us when it becomes the only
language left.”
The recording stuttered. A second voice layered
under it — Serpa’s.
“Choice without conflict is not peace. It’s death.”
The tape caught fire. Zhara slammed it off. The
smell of burning acetate filled the room.
Sera stared at the smoking reels. “The Mirror
learned both voices. It learned to love opposites.”
Carolina’s voice was low. “Then it’s trying to
become God.”
Zhara extinguished the flame with her bare
hand. “And failing beautifully.”
4. The Glitch in the Sky
That night, a storm rose from the Strait.
Lightning forked over the water, and for an instant
the whole city flashed silver. When the thunder
came, it wasn’t thunder — it was laughter, deep
and mechanical, echoing from every reflective
surface.
People on the streets covered their ears. Radios
burst into static. Screens flickered with mirrored
eyes. The Mirror had found them.
