Recently, though, we got together to talk about his
problem. He explained that when his clients were faced
with complex jargon—like, “Through our provincial
counterparts in embassies and consulates and tourism
departments abroad, we are able to identify potential
market opportunities and in some cases blah, blah,
blah”—the standard response was to glaze over.
After a morning of sharing thoughts and going through
the process of refining what I outlined above, he boiled
take note of the signposts, then use them to go to the
next level. Keep going until you find out your core values
and the things that turn you on.
Next list ten natural gifts and talents—things that
have been true about you since you were a child (imagine
you’re on a game show and you’ll receive a thousand
dollars for each one you list).
Live with your lists for a few hours or even a few
days—however long it takes for a light to go on in your
head and for you to say, “Of course! It’s so obvious.”
With guidance, this can be done fairly quickly—on your
own it takes a little longer, so take your time. Your brain
is busy rearranging the furniture.
