improvement, fueled by her own determination and
willpower. She'd become a master of self-reliance, a
lone wolf navigating the urban jungle.
But she'd also become… isolated.
Her relationships had suffered. She'd canceled
plans, declined invitations, prioritized work over
people. She'd convinced herself that she was too busy,
too stressed, too overwhelmed to invest in her
friendships.
She thought about her "Yes" Inventory. Laughter.
Joy. Connection. She'd been chasing the first two, but
she'd neglected the third, the foundation upon which
the others were built.
She realized that she wasn't an island. That she
needed people. That she thrived on connection, on
shared experiences, on the simple act of being with
others.
She decided to take a relational intervention.
She consulted a relationship therapist. A warm,
empathetic woman who understood the challenges of
modern life and the importance of human connection.
"We are social creatures," she told Billie. "We are
wired for connection. Isolation is a major stressor, a
