Brenda had a gift. A gift for sucking the life out of
any room, any conversation, any human being
unfortunate enough to cross her path.
It wasn't intentional, Billie knew. Brenda wasn't a
bad person. She was just… a black hole of negativity.
A bottomless pit of complaints and problems. A
drama queen.
Every conversation with Brenda left Billie feeling
drained, exhausted, and emotionally hungover. It was
like she'd been plugged into a power socket, and all
her energy had been siphoned away.
Billie sat down, bracing herself.
"You won't believe what happened to me," Brenda
began, her voice dripping with self-pity. "My boss…
he's such a…"
And she was off. A litany of grievances, a symphony
of suffering. Billie listened, nodding occasionally,
trying to look interested.
But inside, her energy was draining. Her optimism
was fading. Her patience was wearing thin.
She thought about her "Yes" Inventory. Laughter.
Joy. Connection. Brenda was the opposite of all those
things.
