DEEP REST
Hours passed. The sun began to rise, painting the
sky in hues of orange and pink. Liam’s eyes burned,
his head ached, but he kept going.
And then, he found it.
A series of land deeds, purchased over two
decades by a subsidiary company. A vast, contiguous
tract of land, deep in a remote, mountainous valley.
The coordinates matched the image from the vision.
He zoomed in on the satellite map. The land was
heavily forested. No visible structures. A narrow,
unpaved road, wound deep into the valley,
disappearing into the dense tree cover. And at the end
of the road, a small clearing.
This was it. The facility. Hidden. Underground.
Just as he had seen it.
He took a screenshot, saving it to a flash drive he
found on the motel desk. Proof. Tangible proof.
Now, he needed to get it to Cassandra. And he
needed to get to Evelyn.
The Demonstration.
Evelyn stood on the platform, the harsh spotlight
blinding her. She was hooked up to the EEG machine,
its electrodes cold against her scalp. The large screen
behind her sprung to life, displaying her real-time
brainwave patterns.
