professional. "As you can see on the screen, Dr.
Hayes’s brainwave patterns are highly erratic.
Significant alpha and theta suppression, indicative of
extreme stress and a fragmented conscious state. Her
claims of 'profound stillness' are, frankly, delusional."
She pointed to a specific section of the EEG.
"Note the intermittent high-frequency bursts. These
are consistent with a mind struggling with severe
trauma, attempting to create a false reality to cope."
Evelyn watched her own brain activity displayed
for the world to see, manipulated, misinterpreted. The
unique oscillation, the signature of her discovery, "
was deliberately obscured, dismissed as "erratic."
The Director smiled, a triumphant glint in his
eyes. "We believe Dr. Hayes requires immediate,
intensive psychiatric intervention. And we urge the
public to disregard any sensational claims regarding
her 'cure.' True healing, ladies and gentlemen, comes
from established, evidence-based medicine."
He paused, letting the words sink in. The
journalists scribbled notes. The executives nodded in
agreement.
Evelyn looked at the faces in the shadows. They
believed him. They believed she was mad.
