"Shut it down!" he roared into his comms. "Kill
the broadcast! Scramble the article! Now!"
But it was too late.
On a massive screen in the corner of the facility, a
news anchor’s voice cut through the air, clear and
resonant: "…and joining us live now, investigative
journalist Cassandra Thorne, with a shocking new
development regarding the Dr. Evelyn Hayes case…"
The Director watched, his face contorted with
rage, as Cassandra Thorne’s face filled the screen. She
was holding up a printout of the decoded brainwave
message.
"This, ladies and gentlemen," Cassandra said, her
voice calm, authoritative, "is a cry for help. From a
brilliant scientist, imprisoned and silenced by a
powerful corporation. This is the truth Helix Pharma
doesn't want you to know."
Evelyn, still on the platform, watched the screen.
Liam had done it. Cassandra had done it. The signal
had been received.
The fight for the cure had just gone global. And
Evelyn, despite being in a cage, had just fired the first
shot.
