DEEP REST
Evelyn’s eyes snapped open. Indefinitely. A
mental asylum. A permanent cage. They weren't just
discrediting her; they were burying her alive.
Cassandra's Office. The Broadcast.
"We're live in five!" Cassandra’s assistant yelled
from the next room.
Cassandra was typing out the final lines of her
exposé. Liam stood beside her, watching the news
broadcast, his heart pounding.
"This is it, O'Connell," Cassandra said. "No
turning back now."
She looked at the screen, at Evelyn’s pale, defiant
face. "She's a fighter. We owe her this."
She hit SEND. The article, complete with the
satellite images, the land deeds, Liam’s testimony, and
Evelyn’s decoded brainwave message, were uploaded
to her news outlet’s website. Simultaneously, she sent
it to every major news agency, every investigative
journalist she knew.
Then, she turned to the live broadcast, her eyes
narrowed. She had a plan. A risky one.
"Get me on air," she told her assistant. "I want to
comment on this 'demonstration.' Live."
The assistant's eyes widened. "Are you sure,
Cassandra? They'll try to shut you down."
