NICHOLAS BOOTHMAN
She felt the hum. The oscillation. It was her
anchor, her shield. She retreated into it, finding a
sliver of peace amidst the chaos.
The Director, observing her from the edge of the
platform, frowned. "Her resistance is… remarkable,"
he murmured to Dr. Sharma. "Despite the sedative,
despite the public humiliation, she maintains a
peculiar neural coherence."
Dr. Sharma nodded, uncomfortably. "It's highly
unusual, Director. Almost as if she's… deliberately
controlling her brain state. But that's impossible for a
mind under this much duress."
"Impossible is a word I dislike, Doctor," The
Director said. "It suggests limitations. And we have no
limitations."
He stepped forward, addressing the audience. "As
you can see, Dr. Hayes's condition is severe. We
believe she poses a danger to herself and to the public
with her unsubstantiated claims. Helix Pharma is
committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all,
and that includes protecting vulnerable individuals
from self-destructive delusions."
He paused. "Therefore, we will be transferring her
to a specialized, long-term care facility, where she can
receive the intensive treatment she so clearly requires.
She will remain there, indefinitely, for her own
protection."
