DEEP REST
The heavy door creaked open, revealing a sliver of
light. The Director stood there, his face grim, his eyes
burning with a cold, controlled fury.
"You've caused us considerable trouble, Doctor.”
he said. "A firestorm. But it will be contained. And
you… you will be extinguished."
Evelyn met his gaze, her chin held high. "The
truth will always find a way, Director. You can't bury
it forever."
He chuckled. "We've been burying it for over a
century, Doctor. You are merely a temporary
inconvenience. A fly in the ointment. And you will be
swatted."
He stepped aside, and two figures entered. Not the
lab coats. Not the burly guards. These were different.
They moved with a chilling precision, their faces
impassive. They carried a gurney. And on the it, a
complex array of medical equipment. Not for
diagnostics. For something far more sinister.
Evelyn’s eyes widened. This wasn't just
termination. This was dissection. They wanted to
extract every last secret from her, even as they killed
her.
"Prepare her," The Director commanded, his voice
devoid of emotion. "We will begin the final extraction.
And then… disposal."
