Vega. The Breach. The First Contact.
The circular section of steel plate gave way with a
soft THUD. Vega pushed it aside, revealing a narrow,
dark shaft. A ventilation duct.
"Clear," Vega said. "Looks like a direct line to the
lower levels. Probably a service tunnel."
Liam peered into the darkness. He could feel it
now, the chilling cold of the facility. But beneath it,
the pulse of Evelyn’s energy. She was still alive.
Barely.
"Let's go," Liam urged.
Vega dropped into the shaft, his movements fluid,
silent. Liam followed.
They moved through the narrow, echoing ducts,
the air thick with the scent of ozone and stale metal.
Vega’s thermal scanner picked up the heat signatures.
Guards. Patrol routes.
"Security cameras up ahead," Vega murmured,
pointing to a red glow in the darkness. "Laser grid.
Motion sensors."
Liam was desperate. They were too slow. Evelyn
was dying.
