DEEP REST
Vega was a whirlwind of motion, a silent, deadly
force. He moved with a brutal efficiency, disarming,
incapacitating, and neutralizing every guard they
encountered. His movements were precise,
economical, honed by years of combat.
Liam kept pace, his clarity a guiding light. He
could feel Mallory now, a vacuum, drawing him
forward. He could also sense the layout of the facility,
anticipating turns, hidden doorways, and the approach
of enemy patrols.
"Right here!" he yelled, pointing to a heavy,
reinforced door. "She's behind this one! I can feel
her!"
Vega nodded, his face grim. "More guards. Heavy
resistance. They know we're coming."
Just then, a volley of gunfire erupted from down
the corridor. Two more guards, armed with automatic
rifles, opened fire. Bullets ricocheted off the steel
walls, whining past their heads.
Vega shoved Liam behind a heavy equipment cart.
He pulled out a small, silenced pistol, returning fire
with deadly accuracy. Two quick shots. Two guards
dropped.
"Clear," Vega said, his voice flat. "For now."
He turned to the door. It was thick, blast-proof.
"This isn't going to be easy."
