Her breath hitched. The description matched,
almost perfectly, the intricate diagrams in Mallory’s
book. The "unique, high-amplitude, low-frequency
oscillation." It was too specific to be a coincidence.
She peered at the book, then back at the screen. If
Finch’s paper was a whisper; this leather bound
collection, was a scream. A scream from the past,
hinting at a forgotten truth.
But why forgotten? If Finch’s claims were even
partially true, why wasn't this a cornerstone of modern
psychiatry?
She searched for "Alistair Finch." Nothing. No
other papers. No biographical information. It was as if
the man, and his revolutionary work, had simply
vanished.
A chill snaked up her spine. Scientists didn't just
vanish. Groundbreaking research didn't just disappear.
Not unless someone made it disappear.
She thought of Mallory. Of the endless, futile
treatments. Of the pharmaceutical industry, a
behemoth built on managing symptoms, not curing
disease. A cure for depression that required no pills,
