Evelyn’s mind raced. She had a small, high-
precision EEG machine in her lab. She had access to
sound generators. She had herself.
A desperate idea began to form.
She couldn't bring herself to try it on a patient yet.
Not without more understanding. But she could try it
on herself. She was already at rock bottom. What
more did she have to lose?
She closed the book, its faded symbol now
seeming less like an eye and more like a gateway.
The silence in her library was no longer
deafening. It was a hum. A low, resonant hum, like the
brainwaves depicted in the ancient text. A whisper.
A whisper of a cure.
A whisper of a conspiracy.
And a whisper that someone was about to knock
on her door.
