DEEP REST
"Information," the voice replied. "And your
cooperation. We believe you've stumbled upon
something… valuable."
Her eyes scanned the room again. Her gaze
landing on the small, almost invisible vent near the
ceiling, part of the clinic’s old HVAC system. Too
small for a person. But maybe…
"I don't know what you're talking about," she lied.
The man chuckled. "Don't insult our intelligence,
Doctor. We've been watching you. Your late-night
experiments. Your unusual patient selection. And the
remarkable changes in Mr. O'Connell."
He gestured to Liam, who flinched, pressing
himself further into the corner.
"He's just had a good session," Evelyn snapped.
"Indeed," the man said, taking another step
forward. "Remarkably good. Now, the book. The data.
And then we can discuss your future."
She had to create a diversion.
Her eyes caught the small, heavy fire extinguisher
mounted on the wall near the door.
"You're making a mistake," she said.
The second man moved to block the doorway,
cutting off any escape.
Evelyn threw the lamp.
