DEEP REST
The fear was still there, a knot in his stomach. But
beneath it, a new sense of purpose. He was no longer
just running. He was fighting. For Evelyn. For the
truth. For all the people suffering who deserved a
chance.
He opened his eyes. He saw the woods around
him, not as a terrifying, alien landscape, but as a series
of pathways. A series of possibilities.
He needed to find help. Someone who could get
his message out. Someone who wouldn't be bought or
silenced.
He remembered a name. A name from his past. A
journalist. An investigative reporter he had worked
with on a pro-bono architectural project years ago. A
woman known for her unwavering commitment to the
truth.
Cassandra Thorne. No relation to Silas or Aris.
She was a long shot. A very long shot. She was
notoriously difficult to reach, and even harder to
convince. But she was his only hope.
He stood up. He had to find a way to reach her. He
had to find a way out of these woods.
He looked up at the night sky. The stars glittered
above him.
He was alone. But he wasn't helpless. He had his
mind back. Now, he would use it.
