NICHOLAS BOOTHMAN
Thomas chuckled and shrugged. "And you know
what I figured out after all this wandering and
wondering? That all these stories, these adventures, and
achievements are just different ways of saying the same
thing, 'Hey, you can do it too—once you make up your
mind!'"
Just then, a sharp rap echoed from the front door.
Paul went to see who it was. He turned back from the
doorway.
“Tourists,” he exclaimed. “Dozens of them. Two
coach-loads.”
I smiled, a profound sense of peace settling over me.
This was the crescendo Thomas had spoken of—the
sacred geometry of chance.
The scattered searchings of my schoolboy quest were
finally resolving into a single, resonant chord, and peace
was the sound it made.
