SPONTANEOUS SUCCESS
I followed him down the main street toward the
beach. The town was holding its breath, with everyone
inside watching the game. We found a bench and
watched the sun dip below the horizon, its final rays
casting a warm glow across the water and the festive
lights already shimmering in the swaying trees. Nearby,
the town square was ready for a party. We sat in the
quiet, watching the last colors fade from the sea.
“Seen from way out in space Nicko, this earth of ours
looks like a little blue marble rolling around under that
sun there,” he said. “A tiny, isolated, vulnerable ball of
life, hanging in the vast expanse of space, shielded and
nourished by a paper-thin atmosphere. In reality, this
planet is a single, self-regulating organism where every
living thing flows together striving to find an optimum
balance for harmony and peace. It sounds crazy, but it‘

true.
“We're all a product of our history—your family's
story and your own life experiences make you totally
unique. But most of us are taught to just follow the
crowd and want what everyone else wants. There's a big
difference between that and trusting your own
perspective. The best kind of success—the kind that
