moment mantra was "start where you are, use what you
have, and do what you can."
Arthur began his tennis career in an era where racial
barriers were prevalent. He didn't have access to the
same resources or opportunities as many other players
due to racial segregation. So, he started where he was—
despite these challenges—and made the most of what he
had. Additionally, he did what he could within the
circumstances. He focused on his game, constantly
improving, and advocating for equality in tennis. His
dedication, perseverance, and commitment to social
change went beyond the tennis court.
Start Where You Are: Instead of waiting for the
"perfect" moment or circumstances, you can start taking
steps toward your goal immediately, using the resources
and skills you currently have.
Use What You Have: You might not have access to
all the resources or knowledge you think you need.
Nevertheless, by focusing on making the most of what
you do have and tapping into your imagination, you can
leverage your resources effectively.
Do What You Can: Instead of getting overwhelmed
by the magnitude of your goal, break it down into
manageable tasks. Take action on the things that are
within your control.
