Carolina pointed toward a small staircase
leading down into the Chapel of St. Helena.
“That’s where we start.”
The air cooled as they descended. Ancient stone.
Heavy silence. Henry’s pulse synced to something
deeper.
Carolina’s tablet mapped the walls. “There’s a
buried sub-chamber. Byzantine. No record of it.”
Jinji pulled a sonic probe and pressed it to the
stone. The wall hummed in a steady pitch.
Henry listened. “That’s language. It’s
repeating.”
Ani lo hashem.
I am not the name.
Carolina’s breath caught. “A fragment.”
Jinji’s charge shifted the stones. Behind them: a
narrow chamber, a pedestal, a slab of ancient
limestone. Symbols crawled across its surface,
Proto-Sinaitic, Aramaic, marks older than Babylon.
Arranged in a spiral.
Henry exhaled. “Fragment Nine.”
