The patch behind his ear flashed red every time. “It’s temporary,” he said again.

Finally he stopped talking.
The woman took his hand.
Neither of them moved.
Henry kept walking.
At his apartment, he stood at the window and watched the city hold its breath.
Somewhere, Aimee Quinn was alive because Verax had worked.
Somewhere else, people were losing homes, jobs, certainty, language, because Verax had worked.
The truth was supposed to set people free.
