"It's not God," Henry whispered, pushing himself
up on one elbow, his voice raw. "It's a guardrail. We hit
the wall."
He realized the cosmic implications of his
revolution. The universe did not care about the moral
cost of Slumberol or the truth of a budget report. It
only cared about the Balance of the sentient
experiment.
The experiment requires a critical mass of structured
illusion (Order) to allow for conscious, purposeful
growth (Action). By demanding absolute Truth
(Chaos), humanity destroyed the Order faster than the
growth could adapt.
Henry looked at the vast, silent geometric form
above, which was now beginning to slowly rotate,
sending waves of soothing, non-toxic air currents
across the city. The Shard wasn't here to judge. It was
here to fix a broken operating system.
But how? The psychic flash had been a warning, a
diagnostic. It contained a fragmented image of a place,
