He should have felt angry. Or betrayed. Or something.
Instead, he just felt tired.
His phone buzzed. Vincent: Where are you?
Henry typed back: Outside the Fed. They're taking over the system.
I know. I'm watching the news. Are you going to fight it? No.
Why not?
Because I don't know if what I built is worth fighting for. A long pause. Then: I'm coming to meet you.
You don't have to—
I'm coming anyway.
Henry put his phone away and sat down on the steps of the building. Around him, people were gathering for the press conference. Reporters. Protesters. Supporters. Everyone had an opinion about what should happen next.
Everyone except him.
Vincent arrived at 11:53 AM. He sat down next to Henry without speaking. For a long moment, they just watched the crowd.
"I went to a Quiet Zone this morning," Henry said finally. 128
