Divine Spark Rising
Jinji pulled a pistol from the drawer. “Classic.”
The first flashbang hit like thunder wrapped in
light. Plaster rained from the ceiling, acrid
magnesium stinging the air. Boots pounded closer,
grinding glass into stone.
Jinji was already at the breaker box, cutting the
main circuit. Darkness swallowed the room.
In the black, Henry said: “You don’t need to see.
You need to know.”
Carolina placed her hand on his arm. He led her
toward the stove. The panel clicked open, revealing
a tunnel carved into bedrock.
Another blast rocked the structure. Henry
turned.
Jinji shoved the backup drive into his coat. “Go.
If they take me, don’t come back.”
He shook his head. “Jinji—”
But she didn’t give him the chance. She shoved
him hard down the tunnel.
The lights flared: white, blinding. Boots
thundered on stone. Chorus was inside.
Henry stumbled into the dark, clutching the
drive, her voice echoing in his ears.
