Nicholas Boothman
turned back, looking defeated but like he finally
understood.
"Believing in God takes faith," Vincent whispered,
touching his cross. "Believing that tomorrow can be
better takes action. If you take away the possibility of
action, nobody can ever be brave. The mistake wasn't
the lying, Henry; the mistake was making the struggle
pointless."
Vincent looked down at the paper. "We’ll help you
build this filter. But it has to be permanent. The power
to control it has to belong to the universe, not to
people."
Lina nodded and yanked a laptop from her bag. "I
can code it to link directly to the alien's kill switch. If
anyone tries to use this system for greed, like in the old
days, the entity will see it and wipe our minds."
The weight of it hit Henry hard. They weren't just
rebuilding society; they were building a world held at
gunpoint. Humanity would be a hostage forever,
forced to walk a tightrope between truth and lies just to
survive.
The final act of the revolution took place on the
broken park bench, under the cold, silent scrutiny of
The Regulator.
