Chapter 19: The New World
Twenty years later, Henry stood in the same convention center where the world had almost broken.
It didn’t look like a battlefield anymore.
No dashboards. No compliance feeds. No global metrics ticking toward collapse.
Now it was the Earth Consortium Embassy.
A place built not on certainty, but on negotiation. Henry rested his hands on the railing. Sixty-seven.
Older now. Leaner. Still strong, though less certain than he once was. But his mind was clear, clear in a way it hadn’t been since before they tried to force truth faster than people could survive it.
Nineteen years ago, they shut Verax down. Not because it failed. Because it worked.
Too well. Too fast. Without mercy.
At first, it looked like salvation.
Confessions flooded the world. Governments cracked open overnight. Corporations collapsed under the weight of their own secrets.
People called it justice.
