The Unbelievable Truth
Henry stood outside Claire’s apartment building with a bottle of wine in one hand and a decade of guilt in the other.
Her building stood on a narrow Cabbagetown street east of downtown. Henry had lived in Toronto most of his life and had never once walked this block.

“Yeah. It’s me.”
Her apartment was on the fourth floor. No elevator.

Claire opened the door before he could knock.
She looked more tired than he remembered, though maybe that was because he hadn’t really looked at her in years. Her hair was shorter. She wore jeans and an old college sweatshirt. No makeup. No performance.
