Chapter 9: Évora
The air in Évora’s old quarter carried a faint
scent of smoke and citrus, drifting between the
narrow cobbled lanes. Tourists milled about,
snapping selfies near fountains and tiled façades,
oblivious to what lay beneath their feet.
Henry and Carolina walked side by side, silent.
The stolen Chorus phone, now cracked open and
scrambled, had revealed little more than what they
feared: they were being hunted. GPS backdoors,
encrypted voice logs, references to Vox Key and
Agent Aleph.
The game had just escalated.
Agent Aleph. The name surfaced once on the
cracked phone, nothing more than a fragment of
code. But fragments were enough.
