“You were about to.”
He almost smiled. “Fair.”
Henry stared at the Verax data on the screen.
Four people.
Four wreckages.
No headlines. No revolution. No banks collapsing. No corrupt politicians dragged blinking into daylight.
Just four people in a dirty apartment discovering how much of ordinary life depended on not saying everything aloud.
“This is what we’re unleashing,” Henry said. Vincent looked at him.
“Yes.”
“And some people won’t survive it.”
“No.”
Henry waited for him to soften the answer. He didn’t.
The next month became a blur of work.
Jinji hardened the software. Henry built the public campaign. Claire kept asking who would be hurt first. Vincent kept asking who would be helped last.
The argument changed shape, but never ended.
One night, Henry found Vincent alone by the window, looking down at the alley.
“You’re still against this,” Henry said. “I’m against your certainty.”
