The Truth About Lying
"I said we felt responsible for revealing the truth. What people did with that truth was up to them."
"How'd she react?"
"She called me a sociopath and ended the interview."
Henry laughed. It was a bitter sound. "We're all sociopaths now. That's what happens when you tell the truth in a world built on lies."
"Maybe," Vincent said. "Or maybe we're just ahead of the curve. Maybe in a few years, people will thank us."
"Or maybe they'll hang us."
"That too."
Claire came in from the kitchen, where she'd been on the phone with their mother's old friends. "I just got off with Mrs. Patterson. She wanted me to know that she thinks you're doing the right thing. She lost her pension when Enron collapsed. She said it's about time someone held these bastards accountable."
"One person," Henry said. "One person out of millions thinks I'm doing the right thing."
"It's a start."
Henry's phone buzzed. A text from Rachel: I saw you on the news. You look terrible. But I'm proud of you. For what it's worth.
