PROPERTY & CASUALTY TRENDS

Both the property and casualty sectors have one thing in common: continued soft pricing that favors buyers. With ample capacity and
favorable underwriting results, carriers are fighting for market share and trying to compete not just on price, but also on coverage.
In property, the combination of new markets, strong underwriting appetites from both new and existing carriers, and relatively strong
underwriting results means that even traditionally tough classes and locations have little problem finding a home. The same goes for
casualty, with the notable exception of commercial auto liability, where losses have hammered carriers into retrenching and the exit of a
significant excess player has had brokers scrambling to replace coverage.
The property and casualty marketplace will eventually turn, but absent of some type of event and as long as capital remains abundantly
available, it seems unlikely to happen soon.
