Science - Year 6
Electrical
The Year 6 students have been experimenting by charging metal rods with static electricity, before bringing them near a thin stream of running water. They were amazed to find the water actually bent towards the rod.
The students learned that the positively charged hydrogen atoms in the water are easily affected by anything with a static electrical charge.
Currently the Year 8 students are studying how to identify whether an object is made of metal. They have learned that sometimes a substance’s appearance can provide a clue, however by putting it through various tests, it is possible to determine an answer accurately. Their tests have included whether the substance is malleable, conducts electricity and reacts to an acid.
