STEM Enrichment Tour
On Day
  Perth, Western Australia
On Sunday 16th July, a team of ten students began their 2023 STEM Enrichment Tour in Perth, Western Australia. This tour was an exceptional opportunity for the students to develop their STEM skills, as they visited world-class STEM sites and met scientists and engineers.
For Day Two of the tour, the students split into two groups. Half visited HMAS Stirling where they gained insight into the roles and responsibilities of naval technicians, explored a range of work areas and toured a newly constructed vessel.
The other half visited Scitech, where they engaged with many interactive STEM activities including a planetarium and a G-force machine.
On Day Three, the students headed to the Aquarium of Western Australia. After a presentation that allowed our students to dive deep into the biology of sharks they each experienced a glass-bottomed boat ride across the largest aquarium in Australia. There was also time to enjoy an ice-cream at the nearby Hillary’s Boat Harbour.
Day Four started with our students trying hot chocolates served in doughnuts! They then went
on a guided tour of ALCOA’s Huntley Bauxite mine where they learned about mining engineering
and observed environmental science in action through the extensive rehabilitation works. The tour continued at the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery where they saw the chemical engineering and plant required to produce alumina from bauxite.
