Christmas
It is that time of year again. December has come and with it all the joys of holidays, end of year celebrations and Christmas.
The end of the calendar year is also a time when many celebrate Christmas and God’s purpose for sending His Son into the world. That purpose is written in Matthew 1:21
“She will give birth to a son, and you shall give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins”.
Mary gave birth to a son and He was to be given the name Jesus (the name given by God meaning “Yahweh saves” or “the Lord saves” or even “He saves”). And what more fitting name for the one who would come into this world to die and pay the price for our sins. Many would say that “Easter” is the time to remember this, but the angel said these words around the time Jesus was born and gave the reason for giving Jesus his name - “because he will save His people from their sins”.
As we celebrate our students’ achievements and wrap up another year, may we also remember the purpose for Jesus coming into the world. I encourage you all to sit down as a family this Christmas and open your Bibles to Matthew Chapters One and Two and share this amazing account together.
Plans for 2024:
As we look forward to 2024, we are very excited about the future ahead. We have received a State Government grant to begin building sheds and fencing for our new agricultural areas where we will be focusing on sheep and agronomy with the aim to have this subject fully operational in 2025. We have also received a large BGA grant to fully restructure and add space to our school library, making this space more relevant to secondary students as well as primary, as we focus on literacy and reading in our school. Next year our school will start its first Diverse Ed Class under the leadership of our Learning Support Coordinator, Mrs Leria de Jongh. We are very excited about the opportunities this will bring for our students with learning needs.
2024 will also be a huge step forward for our school as we officially join the Tyndale Group of Christian Schools from January 1st. This will mean much needed support and advice will be flowing into the school as we tap into
their expertise on curriculum, learning support, subjects, staffing, policy and governance. We welcome Mr Mike Potter to our school as the CEO of the Tyndale Group of Christian Schools (TGCS) as he gives us the support needed to continue building upon the great work Harvest already does in our community.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our families for sending your children to Harvest Christian College. On behalf of the Harvest Christian College staff,
I pray that you all have a safe and happy holiday break and we look forward to seeing you all next year. Term 1, 2024 starts on Tuesday 30th January.
