Stage 1 Bushwalking Camp
On Wednesday of Week 1, the Year 10 and 11 Outdoor Education students ventured to the Flinders Ranges with Mr Nield and Miss Tucker. After arriving on Day 1, the group participated in a couple of epic hikes, including the steep climb up Devils Peak with fully loaded rucksacks. This was a real test of endurance and persistence, as the climb was far from easy, but the view from the top made it all worthwhile.
Day 2 saw the students undertake the Dutchmans Stern hike in the early hours of the morning to beat the heat of the day. Another tough but rewarding experience for all. The 360-degree views overlooking Wilpena Pound, Lake Torrens and Spencer Gulf were amazing. That afternoon, the students put their navigation skills to the test on an orienteering course through the town of Quorn.
A visit to the Arid Lands Botanical Gardens was another highlight, which provided the students with a fantastic learning opportunity to engage with some of Australia’s outback flora and fauna. Overall, the camp was a great experience for all.
