“But go thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest and stand in thy

touched not the ground,-no mention has yet
been made of the Jews. As God brought
Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus in direct contact
with his people, that they might know the God
of heaven, so he permitted Alexander to learn
of him. While that conqueror was passing
from Tyre, after its surrender, toward Gaza,
which guards the entrance into Egypt, he
stopped at Jerusalem. Josephus states that
great consternation filled the city when it was
known that the Greek warrior was coming.

Alexander, arrayed in his priestly garments,
and accompanied by the temple officers clad
in white.
