THE STORY OF THE SEER OF PATMOS

                                             Stephen N. Haskell

“Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at
                                              hand” Revelation 22:10.

Like the tree planted by the fountain, whose

branches grow beyond all bounds, so the

church of the first century spread throughout

the world. Its very loneliness and spirit of

sacrifice was its most attractive feature to

those hitherto unacquainted with the power

of the Gospel. It was indeed planted by the

Fountain of Life, and so long as it remained in

connection with that living water, no amount

of opposition could retard its growth.

               The unparalleled rapidity attending the

propagation of the gospel of the Cross, is

witnessed to by writers of that age. To the

Roman church Paul wrote: “I thank my God

...that your faith is spoken of throughout the

whole world;” and again, “Your obedience is

               come abroad unto all men.”
