DANIEL AND THE REVELATION-Uriah Smith

                                 ~The Response of History to the Revelation~

                               Chapter 20 – The First and Second Resurrections
                   the expression, “and which had not

               worshiped the beast,” etc., shows that there is

               another class introduced. The word is the

               compound relative, ὅστις (hostis), not merely

               the simple relative ὅς, and is defined by

               Liddell and Scott, “Whosoever; whichsoever;

               anyone who; anything which;” and by

               Robinson,                  “One            who;            someone                  who;

               whosoever; whatsoever.” As one class, John

               saw the martyrs, and as another, he saw those

               who had not worshiped the beast and his

               image.

               It is true that ὅστις is sometimes used as a

               simple  relative,  as  in  2  Corinthians  3:14;

               Ephesians 1:23, but never in such

               constructions as this, preceded by the

               conjunction καὶ.
