Since every word is divinely given, there is a
significance in the very introduction of what is
about to become the mightiest kingdom of the
earth, and at the same time the greatest
enemy which the people of God ever had to
meet. Daniel had seen this kingdom before. In
the vision of the seventh chapter, Rome was
represented as a beast too terrible to name. Its
characteristics were to devour, to stamp in
pieces, and to break. During a part of its
