Every experience of this disciple pointed
unmistakably to the crowning work of his life.
When the Saviour had returned to heaven,
John would become the medium of
communication between God and man. He
was not the only prophet of the apostolic
church, for sixteen others are named in the
New Testament; but to him was given the
most extended view of the future work of God
in the earth. Bearing in mind that the eye of
Heaven was upon John, and that he was in
every act preparing for that noblest of callings,
