But there is a redeeming feature in this

picture. Degenerate as Babylon has become as

a body, there are exceptions to the general

rule; for God has still a people there, and she

must be entitled to some regard on their

account until they are called from her

communion. Nor will it be necessary to wait

long for this call. Soon Babylon will become so

thoroughly leavened with the influence of

these evil agents that her condition will be

fully manifest to all the honest in heart, and

the way be all prepared for the work which the

apostle now introduces.
