CHAPTER 24 - SEAL ROCKS, MELBOURNE ZOO AND AUSTRALIAN LANDSCAPE TRUST (CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROPERTIES)
Every year around about October time we hold our board meeting at Calperum in South Australia taking the opportunity of meeting the volunteers who provide us with great assistance. The volunteers include the local community, as well as Rotary and Lions and the many people who provide professional services.
During the period leading up to her death, Pat Feilman had taken over a company called Strathfieldsaye Estate, which comprised of a farm between Sale and Bairnsdale in Victoria. It is perhaps the first Homestead in Gippsland. The house itself is absolutely huge. It was left to the Melbourne University and subsequently was passed onto the Trust under the Supreme Court Order under which ALT assumed responsibility for Strathfieldsaye Estate. Pat and her sister Margaret set up The Feilman Foundation which now provides funding to the arts and are currently looking at a grant for Strathfieldsaye in respect of the repairs and maintenance of the building precinct.
Rather than try to explain the details of the ALT Trust operations, attached is an article I prepared a couple of years ago which you will find interesting.
